    Search

•   Any officer, who is in charge of a police station or an investigating officer, has the authority to conduct search of any place situated within the jurisdiction of his police station for anything connected with the offence.

•   It is necessary that the police officers concerned should show their identity cards before conducting a search. Similarly it is also necessary that the name plates alongwith their designations should be displayed on their uniforms.

•   While conducting a search two respectable Panchas/Witnesses should remain present. After the completion of a search, the officer concerned should prepare a search-panchanama detailing therein the particulars of the seized articles and obtain thereupon the signatures of the two Panchas/Witnesses and the owner.

•   The Panchanama of the seized articles must be prepared at the site itself. It is necessary to give a copy of the said Panchanama to the person concerned.

•   The procedure detailed herein above should also be followed while carrying out physical search of a person. However, the physical search of woman must always be conducted by a woman police officer or any lady available at the time of the search.
