Presently AGNI is focussing on areas such as the following
1 Forming Locality Groups
2 Right To Information Act
3 Election Watch

1 Forming Locality Groups

AGNI helps in formation of citizen groups such as ALMs, residents associations etc. This is a very important activity as it is the only way to bring about participation of the local community in civic and other local matters. AGNI provides training and information to the participants in such groups from time to time by conducting workshops and disseminating newsletters.

2 Right To Information Act

The Central Freedom of Information Act allows a citizen to ask for and get information from any agency or department of the government regarding any activity which affects the citizen directly or indirectly.
It has been used successively in the states of Delhi , Rajasthan , Karnataka etc to successfully unearth corruption and bring accountability and better services to the people there. AGNI is trying to generate awareness about the right to information so that more people can make use of it. In that context it has organised a series of workshops on the Right to Information acts in Mumbai and many more are planned in the coming year.

3 Election Watch

AGNI is one of the organisations which have campaigned for the supreme court ruling on electoral reforms which has led to the elected public representatives having to declare their criminal and financial antecedents to the public before the elections. For the coming assembly elections in 2004 it shall be verifying and updating the electoral rolls of its constituent organisations and locality groups. It shall also be holding meet your candidates events as it has done in the past civic elections. After the elections it holds Meet your elected representatives meetings for citizens.
